Metaplanet Buys 160 More Bitcoin, Now Holds Over 4,200 BTC

Metaplanet is going all-in on Bitcoin. The company just picked up another 160 BTC—bringing its total stash to 4,206 Bitcoin as it keeps ramping up its buying spree.

The Tokyo-based firm shared the news on Wednesday, saying it spent about 1.998 billion yen (around $13.2 million) at an average price of 12.4 million yen ($82,680) per BTC.

And that’s not all—it’s been a wild week for Metaplanet. On Monday, the company raised 2 billion yen ($13.3 million) through a zero-interest bond, all of which is being used to buy more Bitcoin.

Then on Tuesday, it revealed a separate buy of 696 BTC—this time using cash from put options it had previously sold. This creative financing approach is helping Metaplanet scale its BTC stack fast.

With these latest moves, it’s clear the company is using every tool in the book—bonds, options, and more—to become a major Bitcoin player in Asia.

Bitcoin Is Now a Key Piece of Metaplanet’s Business

Metaplanet started its Bitcoin journey in 2024 and hasn’t looked back. By December, it even made Bitcoin an official business line within its corporate structure.

So far, it has poured around 54.3 billion yen (roughly $359 million) into Bitcoin—buying in at an average price of 12.9 million yen ($85,300) per BTC.

Its buying spree is getting support from EVO FUND, which helps fund these purchases through bonds and stock deals.

95.6% BTC Yield in Q1: Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Bets Are Paying Off

To help investors track performance, Metaplanet launched new metrics like BTC Yield, BTC Gain, and BTC ¥ Gain to show how its Bitcoin moves are paying off.

In Q1, the company posted a BTC Yield of 95.6%. And it’s already up another 3.9% in early Q2.

With 4,206 BTC now on its books—worth around $300 million—Metaplanet is quickly making its mark as one of the most aggressive corporate Bitcoin buyers globally.

It’s a strategy that’s drawing comparisons to MicroStrategy, but Metaplanet’s playbook is tailored to Japan—mixing finance with a long-term belief in Bitcoin.
